Charles Xavier is a telepath which means he has use of some specific powers. The most important to note for those who are in game with him are as follows:Telepathic Control & Manipulation: The ability to read and manipulate other people's minds achieving a variety of effects up to and including mind control. Absorb Information: The ability to quickly process and store information by mental transference. Mind Control: The ability to control the thoughts and actions of others. Mind Possession: The ability to control and use another's body as their own. Mental Alteration: The power to change a persons personality partially or entirely by sheer force of will. Mental Amnesia: The ability to cause loss of particular memories or even total amnesia in another person or group of people. Mental Paralysis: The ability to induce temporary mental or physical paralysis.[18]
Mental Sedation: The ability to telepathically "sedate" one's victims so that, if already rendered unconscious, they remain so for as long as a telepath continues to "sedate" them.Mind Link: The ability to develop a mental link with any person which remains as a connection to that individual. Astral Projection: The ability to project one's astral form from their body onto astral planes or the physical plane over vast distances. Psionic Shield: The ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of oneself's and other's minds. Telepathic Cloak: The ability to telepathically mask one's presence and the use of their abilities from being detected by other mutants and psychic entities. Telepathic Illusions: The ability to create realistic telepathic illusions and cause people to experience events that are not actually occurring. Telepathic Camouflage: The ability to alter the apparent physical appearance of oneself and others by altering the perceptions of those around them. This can go so far as to make other people believe that the camouflaged people are not there (invisible). copy and pasted the most relevant.
This will obviously be a case by case scenario, and in game Charles is without the use of cerebro so his power will be very limited. He'd also try very much not to pry, but he can't turn off the fact that he might get a ~ feeling ~ from people if not fully formed thoughts, or catch something they might be thinking about very loudly. I would appreciate answer the following questions to keep me on the right track in regards to your characters.
Can Charles read your characters mind?* Do they have any defences ( ie psychic shielding, Emma Frost's diamond form, or Erik Lehnsherr's stupid helmet ) ? Is there anything that would block them? Or is your character something other than human and would their brain be too different for him to comprehend?
Is there anything glaringly obvious he would pick up right away? This could be anything from mental states or general secrets. This would only be used if you wanted Charles to know immediately.
*if he can, is it okay to go off the inner monologue characters have in their brackets?
Also in a game like Reverie, he might have to use his more invasive powers such as control or sedation. I will always come to talk it out oocly first, and hash out whether he can get involved and what people are comfortable with etc etc.
And finally, if your character is a big flashing sign of emotions and you'd like Charles to track them down because of psychic headaches, you can comment here or add me onathosing or at discord athosing#9964.
Kamala + Elektra
Can Charles read your characters mind?* No, she's immune to all forms of mind control/reading/etc. for reasons that have yet to be explained.
Do they have any defences ( ie psychic shielding, Emma Frost's diamond form, or Erik Lehnsherr's stupid helmet ) ? Yes? Her powers are the likely cause of her immunity.
Is there anything that would block them? Or is your character something other than human and would their brain be too different for him to comprehend? Her powers would block him? Again it has yet to be revealed. All we know for sure is that a villain tried getting in her head to possess her and failed miserably.
** I am choosing to ignore any possible (lbr probably an event) comic that may or may not have implied otherwise because as far as I'm concerned her creator is the final word on this and not whatever hack is borrowing Ms. Marvel to boost sales. Sorry not sorry. I don't trust the editorial team that thought Nazi Steve Rogers is a good idea.
Elektra
Can Charles read your characters mind?* No... or at least not easily.
Do they have any defences ( ie psychic shielding, Emma Frost's diamond form, or Erik Lehnsherr's stupid helmet ) ? Elektra is a member of the Chaste so she trained to resist this. This is especially true since the man she grew up with regularly played mind tricks on anyone it worked on (similar to the control and manipulation Charles has) so Elektra had extra incentive to get really good at it.
Is there anything that would block them? Defenses she placed in herself over time. In the comics, she envisions a harsh mountain environment complete with a blizzard with her deepest thoughts and feelings on the other side of it.
Or is your character something other than human and would their brain be too different for him to comprehend? Elektra is the Black Sky but, who even knows what that means tbh. The Netflix writers are really lazy. He can pick up on her being different in some way considering season two implied something dark is inside her and it pushes her to be more violent.
Note: she will pick up on any invasion of her mind and protect against it whether it be through psychic defenses or getting up from her seat to bash his head into the nearest wall. She might be willing to hear him out if he wants to talk... or she could react violently.
Either way, this is what you can expect from the ladies!!!
venus | we know the devil
-Charles can read Venus's mind, with absolutely no shielding whatsoever! In fact, she's basically broadcasting nonstop. She's sort of useless like that. That said, she is inhuman, and parts of her thoughts might be alien to him!
-Charles could pick up that Venus is a transwoman, that Venus is in fact literally the Judeo-Christian devil, and that she's the one who orchestrated the "alcohol heist" early on on-board. Which was really just a drinking party. She's bad at this whole devil bit. She's also surprisingly angry like 90% of the time, which might be less of a surprise with the whole "literally Satan" bit.
-Going off inner monologue is absolutely okay, no questions asked! Same with reading over her app or anything similar.
-However, I would request no manipulation of her mental faculties! Physical manipulation and brute force are fine, but as a huge part of Venus's arc is "truth to herself" I'd prefer her own mental state to remain untouched! Whether this comes across as an immunity due to her inhuman/beacon nature, or Charles just doesn't try, either way works.

What's your personal view, I guess?! 9S has free well and independent thought, and arguably a soul, but the things that make him up are computer based and completely inorganic.
If they don't work, that could also be fun, but yeah... :Y I need to tag Charles anyways.

this speaks to me deeply. I like this idea a lot though, where it's difficult because it's pretty far outside what reading a normal person is like, but still doable? I'm game.
in-game 9S can tell when he's being hacked (which would be your robot equivalent of mind-reading), so I'm thinking he'd know if someone was trying to poke around in his head in other ways too :|b he's not a fan of it.

He's a bio-engineered post-human but that's about it; apart from a weird bit of hardware going on in his head to make eye-lasers happen there's nothing that would stop Charles at all

- The biggest thing with Apollo is that he has zero memory whatsoever of his life previous to becoming Apollo due to a pretty considerable memory wipe. His memories literally just start approximately fifteen years ago. Feel free to pick up on there being a gigantic gap there if Charles does have a reason to poke around
- Sometimes he has 'telepathic' chats with his husband!! Neither of them are actually telepathic; they have nanites that give them the power of ~~radiotelepathy~~
- Whatever is in my tags can be considered free game for being picked up on (emotions, thoughts, whatever)
- Anything in his application is fair game as well, although there are some events which are pretty fiercely buried deep down and majorly suppressed, especially emotionally!!

tl;dr he's totally open to mind reading, control or manipulation, but would probably freak out if he were aware of it.
As for what he'd learn:
- he's a defector from the Empire, born on a planet under occupation that was destroyed by the very weapon he defected to stop. feels immensely guilty about that.
- his mental state is Not Good. but he's trying to keep his head above and stay busy to keep from falling into that hole.
- he's dead. went with a team of people to a planet to stop said planet killing weapon, everyone else on planet died. also feels very guilty about that.
Agent Washington
- Charles would pick up on the fact that Wash's head is a wreck. Not just his overall disposition, which is prickly and paranoid and riddled with PTSD and depression and trauma, but he literally has brain damage. An AI killed itself in his head and drove him insane for a long time. Charles would probably pick up on stray bits of computer code lingering in his head, distorted memories, bits of a different personality left behind, the memory of being brutally tortured and literally torn to pieces over and over again (as an AI).
And if Charles would like to track Wash down, go ahead! He is a mess of a human being!
Rogue
Rogue usually has her mental shields pretty fortified both to keep telepaths out and keep all the psyches contained in her head. Should there be occasions when those shields aren't at full strength, though, then absolutely Chuck can read her mind! (And then wheel away quickly because she'll be pissed.

If her shields are down enough for him to get in without mentally crushing her, then he'll definitely pick up on all the psyches in her head. Enjoy those hundreds of personalities crammed into her mind, Chuck! I'll leave info for other things in-tag.

Mike's from a version of Earth where mankind was nearly wiped out by a plague, and he's got a lot of trauma stemming from that and the aftermath. From the general horror of the plague - death, sickness, violence, (all the fabulous things you'd expect during an apocalypse); to more personal effects in that he lost his entire family (a young son died from the disease, and his wife and daughters were literally lost during the panic to escape a hot zone). No. Ryo isn't human and I'd prefer that he not figure that out right now. He's actually (non-Biblical) Satan with psychogenic retrograde amnesia and so tampering runs the risk of shoving him into awareness of his actual form more expediently. However, it is also notable that Ryo has his own defenses which he's free to note. I'll go into that later.
However, Satan is also a no. Satan has the appropriate shields in place for that kind of probing. Once Satan is "awake" (which will also come with a massive visual shift if I decide to update Ryo to that point), Charles is free to try, but Satan will pretty viciously shove him out. Think of it like a blinding light. Satan doesn't like that sort of stuff.
For both, notably, I would rather not have any sort of control occur. Satan's all about that free will.
Do they have any defenses? Are they anything other than a human?
Yes. Ryo is not aware that he has defenses as he is not aware of his nature (which is that he's a literal fallen angel). Because of this, due to the deep suppression of his memories, the defense will come up as though television snow and radio static. For some reason, there's just nothing to read there and any further inspection will just lead to an escalation of noise. However, extremely empathetic people can tell when he's "crying" (i.e., when he's extremely sad or lonely) when even he won't admit it or show visual signs otherwise. You can get the gist of that if it doesn't involve actual mental rifling. He's difficult.
Satan is also in possession of general mental shielding and isn't actively masquerading as a human while they're "awake." As described above, Charles would get shoved out pretty much immediately. Even if he could linger, the absolute sum of information that they possess would likely be painful and overwhelming. They're older than dirt.

Is your character something other than human? Marina's species evolved from the octopus, so if you'd like to mess around with the idea of her having a differently-structured brain, since she's not even a mammal, that could be fun! But if you'd rather just ignore it and have him read her like he can read a human, that's cool, too.
